The county describes its main jail and two holding sites as responsible for housing arrests made throughout Cochise County by both sheriff's deputies and local police. An arrest in Douglas or Sierra Vista may therefore generate a city police report and a county detention record. The city remains the report custodian even when the jail holds the booking data. That split is why a call to detention cannot replace a request to the arresting agency.

Records staff redact reports under state and federal rules and do not conduct broad criminal-history inquiries. A victim listed in an offense report is entitled to one free copy.
Noncommercial requesters complete the top portion of the sheriff form, while commercial requests require the full form and a purpose statement. The record description should be specific enough to identify the event. A date, place, report number, and type of incident are more useful than a broad request for everything tied to a name. Arizona Public Records Law permits inspection during office hours, but protected content can still be redacted.

Cochise County Removed Its Roster
The Sheriff's public information notice says the office stopped posting its Mugshots and Inmate List tabs on September 9, 2024 after legal review of Houston v. Maricopa County. Booking photos also stopped appearing with social-media posts and press releases. This was a Cochise County access change, not a claim that all Arizona booking data is sealed.

Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
Cochise County does not now offer the former public inmate list as a live booking log. The fastest recent-custody check is the jail at 520-432-7540. Those channels can disagree briefly because intake, prosecutor review, court filing, and repository reporting occur in sequence.

The current jail was designed for 168 people and modified for as many as 302. Its age and the county's separate holding sites help explain why custody data is an operational jail record rather than one simple countywide web feed.
Cochise City Arrest Record Channels
City police reports remain with the city that created them. Sierra Vista routes all public requests, including police records, through JustFOIA. Douglas Police accepts an online records request and lists 300 W. 14th Street, records phone 520-417-7501, a 50-cent per-page fee, and a $10 CD fee. Benson Police prefers email requests and opens its records window Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 360 S. Gila.
Arizona DPS handles state trooper reports and the subject-only state criminal-record review. It is not a general public name search. Agency records, court dockets, and the state repository should be matched by event, not treated as substitutes.
Douglas Police also warns that a report can be destroyed if it is not picked up within 14 days after notice. Benson lists records phone 520-586-2299 and main police phone 520-586-2211. These city details matter when the county jail confirms custody but cannot provide the city officer's narrative. For Sierra Vista, JustFOIA has been the required request route for all city records, including police files, since January 1, 2026.
Cochise Arrests and State Custody
